How Sweet is Your 16?

All I can say about the last two days in UNBELIEVABLE! Who would have ever thought that David(son) would slay the giant in Georgetown (a team many thought would go to the Final Four and maybe even win it all), that Stanford would win after their coach is ejected in the first half and that Tennessee would need some extra time to take care of Butler. All #1 seeds are still in, but just barely for two of them (Memphis & UCLA both had close calls). Our leaderboard has seen a huge shift. Eddy riding his Mountaineers huge victory over Duke has vaulted himself into second place. For now, Bart is the leader but I was truly on the edge of my seat last night hoping my bracket was not about to blow-up with UCLA (my pick for the champion). David has jumped in the mix and is in a tie for third with Melissa, Mitzi (I'm so proud) and Colby. So let's take a few days off, let the teams travel and we'll pick this up gain later this week. Remember, because of the point system, this is still anyone's game, or I guess bracket.

Round 1 in the Books...

It's Awesome Baby! What a great Round 1 of March Madness with tons of upsets. Two #12 seeds and two #13 seeds advanced to the second round. Also, pretty good round for local teams as MSU, UT, Arkansas and Memphis all won their games. Round 1 was also clearly dominated by the women of the class. Congrats to Melissa, Shana and Theresa who are all tied for first place and picked 26 games correctly out of 32. The guys jump in the mix with Colby and Bart getting 24 right along with Kelly and Mitzi. However, no one is out of it as only 5 point seperates first to last and the points for a correct pick begin increasing. Ashley, I'm not sure what happened to your picks. I can't wait for round two. Good luck to everyone!

April Madness Party

The road to the Final Four will lead us directly to the Cooper's home court. Tip-off is set for 4:00 and will last till the final horn; so leave the kids at home. The Coopers will plan on having the steaks, salad, potatoes, etc and will prepare dessert. They are asking that each person bring $5 to defray the cost of the meat as well as your favorite appetizer. If you are not one that enjoys a bacon wrapped filet mignon, grilled to perfection, they will also have some chicken available. An accurate count is needed so reserve your tickets now. Please RSVP by Wednesday April 2nd. There will be sign-up sheets in class the next two weeks or simply reply to this post. This truly will be one shining moment!

Let the Madness Begin

March Madness is upon us, and that means that it is time to introduce the Inaugural Cornerstone Class March Madness Invitational Bracket Challenge! I hope everyone will enter the bracket challenge. As I have seen in the past, it takes ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE of basketball to play, or even to win. So you think you know who's going to win? Maybe you think it is going to be Memphis or maybe Tennessee. No one will believe you picked the winner unless you put it in writing. The winner of the challenge will not only have bragging rights for the next year, there may even be a trophy awarded. To join the challenge, click the link below. You'll be asked to enter the group's password before you can join. The group password is included below.

Become A Mentor

“To give you HOPE for the Future”
2 Timothy 4:17-18

Become a Mentor!

A Mentor is someone who provides another with support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement and serves as a Christian example. Last month was National Mentoring Month. This observance focuses our attention on the need for individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith-based organizations and more to mentor and help people build positive futures for themselves. At AGAPE Child & Family Services, we have taken that one step further by launching an initiative to focus on the need for mentors all year round. Be a part of the effort to engage and empower children and families as they work towards their future. The four programs where the AGAPE/Grizzlies Mentoring Initiative will be focused and utilized to help youth and families in Shelby County are as follows: 1) Families in Touch (FIT); 2) Foster Care (Family Permanency Initiative); 3) Family Preservation; and 4) Adoption Center of the MidSouth.

INTERESTED IN BEING A MENTOR, BUT DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START?
Don’t worry. You’re in just the right place!
AGAPE will be holding Mentor Orientations for prospective mentors from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the AGAPE offices (111 Racine) on:

  • March 5th and 29th

  • April 12th and 26th

  • May 10th and 24th
